Dr. Obis story begins in Houston, Texas, where he graduated from Elsik High School in 2001. Following his passion for service, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he dedicated nearly eight years to his country. Rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, he served in vital roles such as Unit Deployment Manager and Squadron Environmental Management Officer, providing essential logistical support during critical deployments for Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. His commitment to excellence was evident as he was honored as a Base Ceremonial Honor Guardsman and Lead Trainer. Furthermore, during his military tenure, he earned an Associates Degree in Medium/Heavy Vehicle and Truck Technology from the Community College of the Air Force in 2006.
Upon concluding his military service, Dr. Obi transitioned to academia, attending Texas Southern University from 2009 to 2011, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Chemistry. His time at Texas Southern was marked by significant research contributions as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the NASA Center for Bio-Nanotechnology and Environmental Research (CBER). Here, he honed his laboratory skills and presented his findings at multiple symposiums. Additionally, his summer internship at the Johnson Space Center under the NASA Minority University Research and Education Program (MUREP) allowed him to engage in pioneering research on cell toxicity and wound healing.
In 2016, Dr. Obi earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Ross University School of Medicine. His clinical training included clerkships at prestigious hospitals in Chicago, such as Mount Sinai Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital, along with early exposure in the Emergency Room at Princess Margaret Hospital. He also served as a Clinical Teaching Fellow at Ross, where he played a pivotal role in enhancing the education of preclinical medical students through simulation sessions and problem-based learning.
Dr. Obi completed his Family Medicine Residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences from 2017 to 2020. He simultaneously gained hands-on experience as a Resident Physician at Washington Regional Medical Center and worked as an Urgent Care Physician at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, Arkansas.
Since mid-2020, Dr. Obi has practiced as an Emergency Physician with Emergency Staffing Solutions across Arkansas and Oklahoma, while also contributing his skills at Concord Medical Group until late 2023. In September 2020, he joined Mercy Hospital Ardmore, where he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and clinical expertise as a hospitalist, ultimately leading to his current role as Chief of Staff.
Dr. Obi is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and a Lifetime Member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is also an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Student National Medical Association, and serves on the Advisory Board of the Society of Hospital Medicine - Oklahoma Chapter.
